Stitch Butterflies on Clover, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a brown and orange butterfly and a pale white butterfly settle on pink clover blossoms, with fresh green leaves and a few feathery grass stems rising behind. Worked in 26 colours of DMC stranded cotton on vintage ecru Aida for a soft, old-fashioned botanical look.

A little stitcher's folklore: clover is the classic lucky plant, and a butterfly landing near you is said to bring good news. Two butterflies together were an old sign of love and friendship. Stitchers say this pair brings both.

Why this kit: if you love summer meadows and botanical prints, this slim design is gentle, pretty and fits beautifully in a narrow space. A lovely gift for gardeners, and a natural pair with RTO's Clover.

Kit includes: 14-count vintage ecru Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 26 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the butterflies, stitching the darker wing markings first, then fill the pink clover heads. Finish with the leaves and the fine grass stems.

Finished size: 14×23 cm (5.51×9.06 in). A slim botanical picture to frame and a thoughtful handmade gift.
