Stitch Old Mill, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — an old wooden windmill rises softly in the background behind a lush bank of pink and magenta mallow flowers and green leaves. Worked in 28 colours of DMC stranded cotton on white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: a windmill turning in the wind was a sign of plenty, and flowers growing at its feet promised a sweet harvest. Stitchers say this mill grinds only good luck.

Why this kit: if you love country flowers and nostalgic scenes, this windmill meadow is soft, pretty and relaxing to stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners and a set with RTO's Mills kits.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 28 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the pink flowers in the foreground, working the darker magentas first, then the leaves. Finish with the soft windmill in the background.

Finished size: 15.5×22 cm (6.1×8.66 in). A soft country picture to frame and a lovely handmade gift.
