Stitch Cats' Favourite, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a fluffy black and white tuxedo cat stares straight at you with piercing yellow-green eyes, long white whiskers and a little bell on its collar, stitched on black Aida so the cat seems to glow out of the dark. Worked in 25 colours of DMC stranded cotton.

A little stitcher's folklore: a black and white cat was once thought to bring good luck to sailors and households alike, and a cat with a bell on its collar was said to ring in good news. Stitchers say this one is keeping an eye on things.

Why this kit: if you love cats with attitude, this bold portrait on black fabric is dramatic and full of character. A great gift for cat owners — and a fun challenge on black Aida.

Kit includes: 14-count black Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 25 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the eyes and nose, then build up the white fur and the grey shading. Add the whiskers last in long straight stitches — the black fabric forms the background.

Finished size: 20×21 cm (7.87×8.27 in). A striking cat portrait to frame and a fun handmade gift for cat lovers.
