Stitch Irises Rainbow, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a tall bunch of irises in deep violet, royal blue and pale lilac, with golden-yellow throats and long slender green leaves, painted in a loose watercolour style on white fabric. Worked in 44 colours of DMC stranded cotton.

A little stitcher's folklore: the iris is named after Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, and it has long been a flower of hope and good news. Stitchers say this bouquet brings a message of hope every time you see it.

Why this kit: if you love elegant, painterly flowers, this iris bouquet is a beautiful large piece with lots of rich colour to enjoy. A lovely gift for gardeners and anyone who loves blue and purple.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 44 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the darkest violet petals, then blend into the blues and pale lilacs. Add the yellow throats and the long leaves last so the bouquet comes together from the flowers down.

Finished size: 27×36 cm (10.63×14.17 in). An elegant floral picture to frame and a beautiful handmade gift.
