Stitch Silk Poppies, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — red and golden-yellow poppies with silky, crumpled petals and a green bud sway on tall, slender stems against white fabric. Worked in 19 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: poppies are the flowers of remembrance and of peaceful sleep, and a poppy in the home was said to bring sweet dreams and rest. Stitchers say this bunch brings both.

Why this kit: if you love simple, bright florals, this slim poppy design is quick to stitch and full of summer colour. A lovely gift for gardeners and poppy lovers.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 19 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the darkest reds and oranges of the petals, then the golden-yellow highlights. Finish with the long stems and the green bud.

Finished size: 14×25.5 cm (5.51×10.04 in). A bright floral picture to frame and a cheerful handmade gift.
