Stitch Waiting for a Fairy Tale, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — two little gnomes in red pointed hats and two white rabbits peek out from behind a deep red velvet curtain, with fairy lights, a pine branch and swirls of snowy magic. Worked in 31 colours of DMC stranded cotton on brown Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: in Scandinavian tradition, household gnomes guard the home and bring good luck — as long as you leave them a bowl of porridge on Christmas Eve. Stitchers say these ones are waiting for the story to begin.

Why this kit: if you love Christmas magic and Nordic gnomes, this cosy scene is charming and full of detail. A lovely Christmas gift for families, and a piece to bring out every December.

Kit includes: 14-count brown Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 31 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the gnomes' faces and red hats, then the white rabbits. Finish with the velvet curtain, fairy lights and swirls — the brown fabric adds warmth.

Finished size: 25.5×35.5 cm (10.04×13.98 in). A magical Christmas picture to frame and a memorable holiday gift.
