Stitch Among Black Cats, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a sleek black and grey cat lounges lazily over a soft white cushion, legs dangling and tail curled, with a wonderfully unimpressed expression. Sketchy grey lines and just 6 colours of DMC stranded cotton give it a stylish, illustrated look on white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: in Britain and Japan a black cat is a sign of good luck, and a black cat that chooses your house was said to bring prosperity. Stitchers say this one has definitely chosen yours.

Why this kit: if you love black cats and minimalist style, this is a quick, modern stitch with plenty of attitude. A great gift for cat owners and part of RTO's Among Black Cats series.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 6 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the eyes and the darkest black areas, then the grey shading. Finish with the fine sketch lines of the cushion — most of the fabric stays open.

Finished size: 22.5×18.5 cm (8.86×7.28 in). A stylish cat picture to frame and a fun gift for cat lovers.
