Stitch Among Black Cats, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a black cat curls up into a snug ball, fast asleep on a soft white pillow drawn in light sketchy lines. Just 5 colours of DMC stranded cotton on white Aida give it a calm, elegant look.

A little stitcher's folklore: a black cat asleep in the home was said to bring good luck and peaceful nights, and sailors' wives kept black cats to bring their husbands safely home. Stitchers say this one brings sweet dreams.

Why this kit: if you love black cats and simple, modern designs, this sleepy cat is relaxing to stitch with very few colour changes. A lovely gift for cat owners and part of RTO's Among Black Cats series.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 5 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the black body, using the grey shades for the highlights on the fur. Finish with the soft outline of the pillow.

Finished size: 27×23.5 cm (10.63×9.25 in). A calm cat picture to frame and a lovely gift for cat lovers.
