Stitch Warmth in Palms, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a tiny baby dormouse with big dark eyes and a long furry tail curls up in a cupped hand drawn in fine lines. Worked in 17 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: dormice sleep through the winter, so finding one was said to promise a peaceful rest and a gentle spring. Stitchers say this little one is dreaming happily.

Why this kit: if you love tiny woodland creatures, this baby dormouse is sweet, quick and heart-warming to stitch. A lovely nursery or new-baby gift, and part of RTO's Warmth in Palms series.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 17 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the big dark eyes and pink paws, then the soft brown fur and tail. Finish with the fine outline of the hand.

Finished size: 12.5×16 cm (4.92×6.3 in). A tender little picture to frame and a heartfelt handmade gift.
