Stitch Tender Briar Flowers, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a posy of pink and white wild briar roses with golden centres and fresh green leaves, arranged in a round green glass vase, with a few fallen petals on the table. Worked in 40 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey-beige Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: the wild rose, or briar, was an old symbol of simple love and pleasure, and briar grown by the gate was said to keep sorrow away. Stitchers say this posy keeps the house cheerful all year.

Why this kit: if you love romantic, cottage-garden florals, this vase of wild roses is soft, pretty and a joy to stitch. A lovely gift for Mother's Day, birthdays and flower lovers.

Kit includes: 14-count grey-beige Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 40 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the rose petals, stitching the deeper pinks first, then the golden centres and leaves. Finish with the glass vase and the fallen petals.

Finished size: 26.5×26.5 cm (10.43×10.43 in). A romantic floral picture to frame and a heartfelt handmade gift.
