Stitch Magnolia Flowers, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a curving magnolia branch with two large pink blooms, a few closed buds and fresh green leaves, in a soft, painterly style. Worked in 30 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey-beige Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: magnolias are one of the oldest flowering trees on earth, and in the East they stand for dignity, beauty and a happy home. Stitchers say a magnolia in bloom brings early spring into the house.

Why this kit: if you love elegant spring flowers, this small magnolia branch is a quick, graceful stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners — and it makes a beautiful set with RTO's other magnolia designs.

Kit includes: 14-count grey-beige Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 30 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the pink petals, working the darkest shades at the base of each bloom, then add the buds. Finish with the brown branch and the leaves.

Finished size: 18.5×13.5 cm (7.28×5.31 in). A graceful floral picture to frame and a thoughtful handmade gift.
