Stitch Girlfriends, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — three tall, slender cats stand side by side under hand-lettered names: Princess Cat in a pink rose-print dress, Sweet Cat in black and white stripes, and Cute Cat in black with little pink hearts. Worked in 19 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: cats are said to choose their friends for life, and three cats in one house were said to bring three times the luck. Stitchers say these three are best friends for ever.

Why this kit: if you love cats and fun, modern designs, this trio is quick, bright and full of personality. A perfect gift for your best friends or your sister, and it makes a lovely cushion too.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 19 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the cats' faces and eyes, then fill in each pattern — roses, stripes and hearts. Finish with the hand-lettered names in backstitch.

Finished size: 21.5×30 cm (8.46×11.81 in). A fun friendship picture to frame and a sweet gift for your girlfriends.
