Stitch Bug's Fly, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a chestnut-winged beetle takes flight with its wings open wide above a delicate pink and green fern frond. Worked in 23 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey-beige Aida for a vintage natural-history look.

A little stitcher's folklore: a beetle flying into the house was once said to bring good fortune, and in ancient Egypt the beetle was a symbol of renewal. Stitchers say this one brings a lucky new start.

Why this kit: if you love natural history prints and insects, this beetle-in-flight is unusual and beautifully detailed. A great gift for nature lovers and part of RTO's insect series.

Kit includes: 14-count grey-beige Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 23 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the beetle's dark body and legs, then the translucent wings. Finish with the pink and green fern below.

Finished size: 15.5×21 cm (6.1×8.27 in). A vintage-style nature picture to frame and an unusual handmade gift.
