Stitch Bloomy Herbs, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — an old-fashioned hand water pump drawn in soft sepia lines, surrounded by pink and purple flowering herbs and fresh green stems. Worked in 25 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: country gardens always grew herbs by the well, and herbs blooming at the water pump were said to keep the household healthy and the water sweet. Stitchers say this corner of the garden keeps everyone well.

Why this kit: if you love country-cottage style, this little garden corner is gentle, nostalgic and quick to stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners, and a pair with RTO's Bloomy Herbs cart-wheel design.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 25 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the flowering herbs, then outline the water pump in its fine sepia lines. Most of the white fabric stays open.

Finished size: 9×15.5 cm (3.54×6.1 in). A nostalgic country picture to frame and a lovely gift for gardeners.
