Stitch Christmas Balls, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — shiny red, white and silver Christmas baubles lie among snowflakes and red berries, with the biggest one showing a tiny snowy gingerbread house. Worked in 30 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey-blue Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: glass Christmas baubles were first made to catch the candlelight and keep bad spirits from the tree. Stitchers say this one holds a whole little village of Christmas cheer.

Why this kit: if you love Christmas decorating, this sparkling bauble scene is festive and a joy to stitch, with the grey-blue fabric giving a frosty background. A lovely Christmas gift.

Kit includes: 14-count grey-blue Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 30 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the red baubles and their shine, then the painted house. Finish with the berries, snowflakes and silver highlights.

Finished size: 29×19 cm (11.42×7.48 in). A sparkling Christmas picture to frame and a festive handmade gift.
