Stitch Thistle, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — purple thistle heads and pink clover flowers rise on green stems among soft, silvery wild grasses. Worked in DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: the thistle is the emblem of Scotland, said to have saved the country when an invader stepped on one barefoot and cried out. Stitchers say it still keeps the home well guarded.

Why this kit: if you love botanical prints and wildflowers, this thistle design is light, elegant and relaxing to stitch. A lovely gift for Scottish friends and gardeners, and a pair with RTO's Juniper.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in all the colours you need, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the purple and pink flower heads, then the green stems and leaves. Finish with the delicate silvery grasses.

Finished size: 19×25.5 cm (7.48×10.04 in). An elegant wildflower picture to frame and a lovely handmade gift.

There was no mention of kit being counted cross stitch I was very disappointed it did not show Aida cloth charted. Will not buy again
