Stitch Thumbelina, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — tiny Thumbelina in a blue dress hugs a big blue swallow as they rest on a tree branch among golden autumn leaves and little birdhouses. Worked in 46 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 14-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: in the fairy tale, the swallow Thumbelina saved carried her away to a land of flowers — so a swallow was said to bring kindness back to those who give it. Stitchers say this friendship lasts for ever.

Why this kit: if you love classic fairy tales, this Thumbelina design is magical and rewarding to stitch. A lovely gift for daughters, granddaughters and fairy-tale lovers.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 46 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with Thumbelina and the swallow's blue feathers, then the branches. Finish with the golden leaves and the little birdhouses.

Finished size: 21.5×27.5 cm (8.46×10.83 in). A fairy-tale picture to frame and a treasured handmade gift.
