A two-storey country cottage with a steep slate roof, dormers and a chimney: a loft study and an upstairs bedroom sit above a kitchen with a blue dresser and a cosy dining room, while outside a garden gate reads Wonderful Cottage beside a red mailbox, an owl perches in a bare tree, a balcony holds an easel, and a table is set for an outdoor meal.

A little crafter's folklore: country folk say an owl in the garden tree watches over the house at night, and miniaturists like to perch him where he can see the gate.

Why this kit: if you want a full storybook cottage, this house has four lit rooms plus a garden full of little details.

In the box: pre-cut wooden pieces, wallpaper and fabric pieces, miniature furniture and finely detailed accessories, built-in LED lights, and illustrated step-by-step instructions. Not included: batteries, glue and scissors.

Pair it with the Pink Dome Dessert Cafe or Happy Moments Book Cafe Street. Build tip: fit and glue the wall panels into the shell first, add wallpaper and fabric before the furniture, place the smallest accessories with tweezers, and wire in the lights last.
