Make Van Gogh's Irises, a 3D paper tole art kit by Wizardi: a vase of deep blue irises with long green leaves against a bright yellow background rises in layers of printed card, finished in a black frame.

A little crafter's folklore: irises were said to be messengers of the gods, carrying good news between heaven and earth.

Why this kit: if you love flowers and bold colour, this blue and yellow picture brightens any room.

In the box: printed card sheets with every layer of the picture, adhesive foam pads for building depth, a black frame with a fold-out easel stand, and instructions. Not included: a craft knife or scissors for trimming.

How to make: cut out each layer and build the picture up from the background, raising each layer on foam pads so the scene gains real depth. Slip the finished picture into the frame and stand it on a desk, shelf or mantel.

A thoughtful gift for art lovers and museum fans, and a relaxing creative project for adults. Recommended for ages 14 and up; small parts, keep away from young children.
