Build an orostachys succulent, a mini building block plant kit by Wizardi: a full rosette of pale mint-green paddle-shaped leaves sends up slender stems tipped with small white and pink star flowers, plus a central flowering spike, in a rust-orange pot.

A little builder's folklore: orostachys is called rock pine in the mountains, said to bring long life because it thrives on bare stone.

Why this kit: if you like cool colours, the mint-green leaves and starry flowers make a fresh, airy little plant.

In the box: ABS building bricks for the plant and its little rust-orange pot, and an illustrated step-by-step instruction booklet. Not included: glue or tools, because none are needed.

How to build and display: press the bricks together by hand following the numbered steps, starting with the pot and finishing with the leaves and flowers. It is a quick, relaxing build for one evening; collect the series and line the pots up on a windowsill or desk, and they never need watering.

A cheerful little gift for a plant lover, a coworker or a teacher, a stocking stuffer, and a calm screen-free hobby for adults and teens. Recommended for ages 14 and up; small parts, keep away from young children.
