Build a lavender orchid, a building block flower kit by Wizardi: two open lavender-purple orchid blooms with yellow centres, a closed purple bud and a small white accent flower rise above arching green leaves in a rust-orange pot with a cream band.

A little builder's folklore: orchids are the flower of grace and refinement, and a purple orchid is said to bring admiration and respect.

Why this kit: if you want an elegant orchid that fits a desk, this lavender spray looks refined and never needs care.

In the box: ABS building bricks for the flowers, stems, leaves and the terracotta-style pot, and an illustrated step-by-step instruction booklet. Not included: glue or tools, because none are needed.

How to build and display: press the bricks together by hand following the numbered steps, building the terracotta-style pot first, then the stems, leaves and blooms. It stands about 8 inches tall, just right for a desk, bookshelf or windowsill, and never needs watering.

Size: about 10 x 10 x 20 cm (3.9 x 3.9 x 7.9 in). A lasting flower gift for mom, a friend, a teacher or a coworker, and a calm screen-free hobby for adults and teens. Recommended for ages 14 and up; small parts, keep away from young children.
