A little stitcher's folklore: Provence lavender blooms from late June to early August, and the old harvesters cut it by hand with a curved sickle. Half stitch, worked diagonally over one canvas thread, uses less thread than cross stitch, and it gives a smooth, even surface that looks like woven tapestry.
