A shiny red apple with a brown stem and a pointed green leaf fills the middle of this round pine board. It is a DIY string art kit: you set the nails, wind the thread and end up with a piece of wall or shelf decor you made yourself.

An apple is the classic gift for a teacher and the oldest fruit in folklore, from Eden to the golden apples of Greek myth. String art boomed as a home craft in the 1960s and 70s, when boards of nails and colored thread hung in living rooms everywhere; this kit brings the idea back in a cleaner, modern style.
