Sailing Ship String Art Kit by Wizardi M1-3 DHACE28044

A tall ship with white sails and a gold hull glides across a black wood-grain board, with little silver birds in the sky. It is a DIY string art kit: you set the nails, wind the thread and end up with a piece of wall or shelf decor you made yourself.

A sailboat with full sails is the classic coastal motif, a symbol of calm water and summer days by the sea. Nail-and-thread pictures like this grew out of curve stitching, the 1800s math lesson in thread, and became a favorite home craft in the 1970s.

Why this kit: the largest picture boards in our string art range, for a real wall or shelf statement; pre-drilled holes and illustrated instructions, so a beginner can finish it with confidence; and a fold-out stand and adhesive pad, so it can stand or hang.

Kit includes: a pre-drilled wooden board, a bag of nails, spools of colored thread, a fold-out stand with an adhesive pad, a small hammer and illustrated instructions. Not included: scissors for trimming the thread ends.

Tap the nails into the pre-drilled holes with the small hammer, tie the thread to a starting nail, outline the shape first and then fill it in with criss-cross passes, one color at a time, finishing with a small knot. The nails are small and sharp, so it is a project for adults, teens and older children working with an adult.

The finished piece measures about 21 x 30 cm (8.3 x 11.8 in). It is a natural fit for a bathroom, a beach-house shelf or a nautical nursery, and makes a thoughtful gift for a sailor, a fisherman or a coastal-decor fan.
