Stitch Strawberry Thief, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — pairs of speckled thrushes steal ripe strawberries among curling leaves and flowers on a deep indigo ground.

A little stitcher's folklore: William Morris drew the pattern after watching thrushes raid the strawberry beds in the kitchen garden at Kelmscott Manor.

Why this kit: adapted from Morris's 1883 printed-fabric design, the whole ground is stitched, giving you a rich, densely coloured piece in the true Arts and Crafts style.

Kit includes: 14-count ivory Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Work from the centre of the chart outwards in full cross stitch, then add the back stitch outlines once the colour areas are filled.

Finished size: 31×31 cm (12.2×12.2 in). A classic Morris pattern to frame for a hallway or study.
