Stitch Fern Garden, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a pink flamingo wades through blue water among tall ferns and pink blossom.
A little stitcher's folklore: flamingos are born grey; their pink colour comes from the carotenoids in the shrimps and algae they eat.
Why this kit: a bright, tropical design on cream Aida that stitches up in cross stitch and back stitch only.
Kit includes: 14-count cream Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch and back stitch. A frame is not included.
Stitch the flamingo and ferns in cross stitch from the centre of the chart, then add the outlines in back stitch.
Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A playful botanical piece for a bathroom or bedroom.
