Stitch I'm Just Here for the Cake, a greeting card cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a grinning giraffe in a red spotted bow tie and party hat peers out of a cream card mount.

A little stitcher's folklore: the tradition of candles on a birthday cake goes back to eighteenth-century Germany, where a 'light of life' candle stood in the middle of the Kinderfest cake.

Why this kit: based on artwork by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs and featured in Bothy Threads' Especially For You book, this edition comes in the new plastic-free packaging with threads from Madeira, Anchor and DMC.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive Wrendale Designs speckle, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a card mount and envelope, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch and back stitch. The card mount frames the finished stitching, so no extra frame is needed.

Stitch the giraffe in cross stitch following the chart, add the whiskers and outlines in back stitch, then mount the finished piece in the card.

Finished size: 10×16 cm (3.9×6.3 in). A handmade birthday card for someone who never says no to cake.
