Stitch Big Bear Hugs, a greeting card cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a big brown bear gives a small grey rabbit a warm hug beneath the words 'thinking of you'.

A little stitcher's folklore: the teddy bear is named after US President Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt, who refused to shoot a tethered bear on a 1902 hunting trip.

Why this kit: based on artwork licensed from Cockadoodle Cards by Draw, it comes with an A5 card mount and an alphabet to add a name.

Kit includes: 16-count antique white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, an A5 cream card mount and envelope, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions with an alphabet for personalising. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. The card mount frames the finished stitching, so no extra frame is needed.

Stitch the bear and rabbit in cross stitch, add the lettering and outlines in back stitch and the French knots, then personalise and mount it in the card.

Finished size: 10×16 cm (3.9×6.3 in). A comforting card for a friend who needs a hug.
