Stitch More Candles, a greeting card cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a hedgehog in a party hat eyes a slice of birthday cake below the motto 'more candles equal more cake'.

A little stitcher's folklore: the tradition of singing 'Happy Birthday' comes from an 1893 school song, 'Good Morning to All', written by two American sisters.

Why this kit: based on artwork licensed from Cockadoodle Cards by Draw, it comes with an A5 card mount and an alphabet to add a name or age.

Kit includes: 16-count antique white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, an A5 cream card mount and envelope, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions with an alphabet for personalising. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. The card mount frames the finished stitching, so no extra frame is needed.

Stitch the hedgehog and cake in cross stitch, add the lettering and outlines in back stitch and the French knots, then personalise and mount it.

Finished size: 10×16 cm (3.9×6.3 in). A cheeky card for a milestone birthday.
