Stitch Sew It Begins, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a harvest mouse sits on a cotton reel, with threads to stitch the bobbin in green or pink.

A little stitcher's folklore: 'a stitch in time saves nine' first appeared in print in 1732, meaning a small repair now saves a bigger one later.

Why this kit: a 15 cm round design by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, sized to display in an embroidery hoop, and a quick, satisfying project, in Bothy Threads' plastic-free packaging.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Both pink and green threads are included so you can choose the colour of the bobbin. Stitches used: full cross stitches, fractionals, back stitch and one French knot. The hoop shown is not included.

Choose green or pink for the reel, stitch the mouse in cross stitch and fractionals, then add whiskers in back stitch and the French knot.

Finished size: 15 cm round (5.9 in). A perfect gift for a sewing friend.
