Stitch Ladybird, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a fluffy grey kitten sits watching a tiny red ladybird on the ground.

A little stitcher's folklore: 'Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home' was sung to send the beetle off safely, and harming one was thought to bring bad luck.

Why this kit: a 15 cm round design by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, sized to display in an embroidery hoop, and a quick, satisfying project, in Bothy Threads' plastic-free packaging.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, fractionals, back stitch and French knots. The hoop shown is not included.

Stitch the kitten in cross stitch and fractionals from the centre, then add whiskers in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 15 cm round (5.9 in). A sweet little piece for a cat lover.
