Stitch Gentle One, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a shaggy Highland cow touches noses with her fluffy calf.

A little stitcher's folklore: Highland cattle calves are born with soft, woolly coats and can stand within an hour of birth.

Why this kit: a Wrendale Designs favourite by Hannah Dale, it is full of character, with plenty of expression to bring out as you stitch.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive Wrendale Designs speckle, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the cows in cross stitch from the centre, then add the horns and fringe in back stitch.

Finished size: 28×25 cm (11×9.8 in). A gentle piece for Mother's Day or a Scottish home.
