Stitch The Water's Edge, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — an otter, a kingfisher, a heron, a water vole and a dipper gather at a reedy riverbank.

A little stitcher's folklore: otters were almost lost from English rivers in the 1970s and have since returned to every county.

Why this kit: based on artwork by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, it is stitched on Aida printed with exclusive Wrendale background artwork, so the scene is already softly coloured before you begin.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida printed with exclusive Wrendale Designs background artwork, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the animals and reeds in cross stitch from the centre, then add the outlines in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 28×31 cm (11×12.2 in). A riverside piece for anyone who loves wildlife walks.

    The company shipping did a great job! The pattern on the material is not centered and does not leave much room for framing. I reached out to the maker and no reply and the one email doesn't work. I have not reached out to the seller because it's not their fault on the placement of the background
