Stitch A Pup's Life, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a sleepy golden retriever puppy rests its head on a pile of puppy-training books.

A little stitcher's folklore: golden retrievers were first bred in the Scottish Highlands in the 1860s by Lord Tweedmouth.

Why this kit: from Bothy Threads' long-running Wrendale Designs range by Hannah Dale, it matches the rest of the collection if you want to build a gallery wall.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive Wrendale Designs speckle, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the puppy and books in cross stitch from the centre, then add the lettering and outlines in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 30×26 cm (11.8×10.2 in). A fun gift for a new puppy owner.
