Stitch Bloom and Grow, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a baby elephant holds up a little flower to its mother in a grassy meadow.

A little stitcher's folklore: elephant calves suck their trunks for comfort, just as human babies suck their thumbs.

Why this kit: based on artwork by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, it comes with an alphabet so you can add a baby's name or a date.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive Wrendale Designs speckle, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions with an alphabet for personalising. Stitches used: cross stitch, a few fractionals, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the elephants in cross stitch from the centre, add fractionals where shown, then the outlines in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A tender piece for a new baby or Mother's Day.
