Stitch Parrot on Parade, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a scarlet macaw with ruffled red feathers and blue wing tips poses with a sideways glance.

A little stitcher's folklore: macaws can live for over 60 years, so a pet parrot is often left to the next generation in a will.

Why this kit: a Wrendale Designs favourite by Hannah Dale, it is a 26 cm square design with a single character and plenty of expression to bring out as you stitch.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. A frame is not included.

Stitch the parrot in cross stitch from the centre of the chart, then add the feather and beak details in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A vivid splash of red for a sunny room.
