Stitch Christmas Donkey, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a grey donkey peers over a wall while three round robins line up beside him.

A little stitcher's folklore: legend says the cross on a donkey's back was given in thanks for carrying Jesus into Jerusalem.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the donkey and robins in cross stitch from the centre, then add the fur and outlines in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A gentle Christmas picture to bring out each December.
