Stitch Sunshine, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a white duck peeks out from a bunch of bright sunflowers.

A little stitcher's folklore: runner ducks stand upright like skittles and were once walked to market in flocks rather than carried.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the sunflowers and duck in cross stitch from the centre, then add the outlines in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A sunny piece for a kitchen or conservatory.
