Stitch Christmas Scarves, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a tall white duck in a blue spotted scarf stands beside a little robin in a red scarf.

A little stitcher's folklore: the robin's red breast was said to have been scorched while it fanned the fire to keep the infant Jesus warm.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, a few fractionals, back stitch and one French knot. A frame is not included.

Stitch the duck and robin in cross stitch from the centre, add fractionals where shown, then the outlines in back stitch and the single French knot.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A cosy Christmas piece for the festive season.
