Stitch Rainbow, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a jewel-coloured hummingbird hovers with outstretched blue and turquoise wings.

A little stitcher's folklore: hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards, and their hearts beat over a thousand times a minute in flight.

Why this kit: a Wrendale Designs favourite by Hannah Dale, it is full of character, with plenty of expression to bring out as you stitch.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the bird in cross stitch from the centre of the chart, then add the beak and feather details in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A vivid piece for a bright, modern room.
