Stitch Piggy in the Middle, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a hamster, a guinea pig and a lop-eared rabbit are stacked one on top of another.

A little stitcher's folklore: 'piggy in the middle' has been a British playground game for generations; the child in the middle tries to catch the ball.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the three pets in cross stitch from the centre of the chart, then add the whiskers and fur in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×30 cm (10.2×11.8 in). A fun piece for a child's room or a small-pet lover.
