Stitch The Lookout, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a barn owl with a heart-shaped white face perches among red poppies on a speckled ground.

A little stitcher's folklore: barn owls hunt almost entirely by sound; their dish-shaped faces funnel the rustle of a vole to ears set at different heights.

Why this kit: based on artwork by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, it is stitched on Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive speckled background.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the owl and poppies in cross stitch from the centre of the chart, then add the feather details and stems in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A striking owl for a study, landing or bird lover.
