Stitch Kitty, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a playful tabby kitten crouches to pounce on a ball of blue wool.

A little stitcher's folklore: sailors kept cats aboard ship to guard the stores from rats, and a ship's cat was thought to bring good luck.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, back stitch and a few French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the kitten and wool in cross stitch from the centre, then add the whiskers and yarn in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A playful gift for any cat lover who knits or stitches.
