Stitch He's a Fun-Gi, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a harvest mouse perches on top of a red-and-white spotted toadstool.

A little stitcher's folklore: fly agaric toadstools are the red-and-white mushrooms of fairy tales, and they were said to spring up in fairy rings overnight.

Why this kit: a Wrendale Designs favourite by Hannah Dale, it is full of character, with plenty of expression to bring out as you stitch.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, a few fractional stitches, back stitch and one French knot. A frame is not included.

Stitch the toadstool and mouse in cross stitch from the centre, add fractionals where shown, then the whiskers in back stitch and the French knot.

Finished size: 18×23 cm (7.1×9.1 in). A smaller, quicker Wrendale project for a shelf or nursery.
