Stitch Daisy Mouse, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a harvest mouse climbs between white daisies while red ladybirds crawl over the petals.

A little stitcher's folklore: country children once counted the spots on a ladybird to tell how many months until good luck would arrive.

Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, a few fractional stitches, back stitch and two French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the flowers and mouse in cross stitch from the centre, add fractionals where shown, then the outlines in back stitch and the two French knots.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A pretty summer piece for a bedroom.
