Stitch Racing Stripes, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a zebra mare and her foal rest their heads close together, stripes blending as one.

A little stitcher's folklore: no two zebras share the same stripes; a foal learns its mother's pattern in its first days so it can find her in the herd.

Why this kit: a Wrendale Designs favourite by Hannah Dale, it is full of character, with plenty of expression to bring out as you stitch.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the zebras in cross stitch from the centre, then add the outlines in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A graphic black-and-white piece for a modern room.
