Stitch Lakes Life, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a steamer sails across a green lake beneath layered pine-covered hills and a pale sun, with 'Lakes Life' written below.

A little stitcher's folklore: Beatrix Potter bought fifteen farms in the Lake District and left them to the National Trust to protect the landscape.

Why this kit: from Hilary Yafai's Wild at Heart collection, it is stitched on soft sage green Aida with metallic thread for the shimmer on the water.

Kit includes: 14-count light sage green Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, metallic thread, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, lazy daisies and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the hills and lake in cross stitch from the centre, then add the lettering in back stitch and the lazy daisy details.

Finished size: 32×30 cm (12.6×11.8 in). A fresh, calm piece for anyone who loves the Lakes.
