Stitch Love Heart, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a heart filled with tiny flowers, swirls and hearts, with the word 'love' hidden throughout.

A little stitcher's folklore: sending hearts as a sign of love became popular in Victorian times, when lace-paper valentines were all the rage.

Why this kit: designed by Kim Anderson for her Love Collection, it mixes cross stitch with metallic thread and sparkling extras for a finished piece that catches the light.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, metallic thread, beads, needles and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the heart in cross stitch from the centre, add the swirls and lettering in back stitch, then sew on the beads.

Finished size: 26×24 cm (10.2×9.4 in). A romantic gift for Valentine's Day or a wedding.
