Stitch Mum and Me, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a ewe and her lamb rest in a meadow of red poppies beneath a pale sun and distant hills.

A little stitcher's folklore: ewes recognise their own lambs by bleat and smell, even in a flock of hundreds.

Why this kit: based on original artwork by Lucy Pittaway, it is a tender scene that makes a lovely Mother's Day gift.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the meadow and sky in cross stitch from the centre, then the sheep and poppies, and add back stitch and French knots.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A heart-warming gift for a mum or new mother.
