Stitch Penguin Pals, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — three penguins in Santa hats and colourful scarves hold golden stars beneath 'We wish you a Merry Christmas'.

A little stitcher's folklore: emperor penguins huddle in their thousands through the Antarctic winter, taking turns in the warm middle.

Why this kit: designed by Jenny Barton, it is a quick festive stitch on winter blue Aida with Lana woolly thread for the fluffy trims, mounted into a cream triple-fold card.

Kit includes: 16-count winter blue Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, Lana woolly thread, a cream triple-fold card mount and envelope, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. The card mount frames the finished stitching, so no extra frame is needed.

Stitch the penguins in cross stitch from the centre, then add the lettering in back stitch, and mount the finished piece in the card.

Finished size: 10×10 cm (3.9×3.9 in). A cheerful card for friends and family.
